When looking for a new home, it’s not only important to make sure the neighborhood is a good fit for you and your family, but also for any furry members of your family! Consider these 4 factors when searching for the ideal neighborhood:

Pet-friendly shops:
Be on the lookout for signs in stores that say Pets Allowed, restaurants that offer or leave water bowls outside, or shops that have treats at the register. These small gestures that benefit animals in the community is a good sign you are in an area where your pets are openly invited to be a member of.

Sidewalks and parks:
Even if you are looking at a home with a decent sized property, it is always nice to have another safe space available for walks beyond your yard. If sidewalks are not an available option, you can always look into parks (especially dog parks) in close proximity to your home where you can walk your pet freely and enjoy a few good games of catch.

Other furry friends:
Look around for other animals; this is an easy indicator to see if your lifestyle will mesh well with the community. Do you see a friendly community where pet owners and animals interact frequently? Talk to locals in the community and get a feel for how people and animals interact before settling down.

Proximity to a vet:
It’s crucial to make sure that any amenities your pets may need are readily available. A vet should definitely be among the top priorities. In an emergency situation, the last thing you want to be is far away for medical care. Scope out local veterinary facilities to make sure you like the practice and feel comfortable with the distance (walking or driving) from your potential home. It’s also important to have a trusted food distributor and or groomer nearby as well.

Keep these tips in mind so that you and your pets have an easy transition into your (and their) new community!
